rooted solidarity

The Bailey College of the Environment is comprised of four elements: academics (our environmental studies linked major and minor), our Think Tank (comprised of faculty, students and an outside scholar), research fellowships, and community outreach and engagement.

Rooted Solidarity, a project of the Bailey College of the Environment at Wesleyan, supports environmental and food justice movements across the state of Connecticut. Rooted Solidarity helps grow students’ capacity to engage with these communities in meaningful ways. As a university partner, we move towards reciprocal relationships with those affected by environmental racism and our unjust food system.

We are currently engaged in a variety of activities, including organizing political education workshops; hosting an annual statewide food justice conference; placing student interns at food and environmental justice organizations; co-facilitating a statewide food justice policy network; offering community-engaged courses in environmental justice and food security; and supporting community-engaged research on topics defined by community partners.

Rooted Solidarity is funded by The Robert F. Schumann Foundation.
